PROJECT BRIEF

As a designer, I am constantly looking to challenge myself. From critical thinking skills to flexing my creative muscles, I decided to challenge myself with a special project for New Era and a special holiday for the game of baseball.

My goal was to unite style and patriotism with this year’s Fourth of July apparel line. This project seamlessly blends team pride and national spirit, offering fashion-forward individuals a chance to celebrate both their favorite teams and American heritage. Through striking designs, we aim to empower our customers with the ability to showcase their unique identities with pride and style.

THE APPROACH

As Independence Day celebrations unfold, I find myself contemplating its place within today's ever-evolving cultural landscape. As a member of Gen-Z, I have a firsthand view of how shifting national sentiments and America's current cultural dynamics can influence the enthusiasm of younger generations towards the 4th of July festivities. With this project, I set out to create products that transcend the traditional association with this holiday, aiming for designs that remain relevant well beyond the confines of a baseball diamond on the 4th of July weekend. My primary focus was to infuse each product with distinctive character, allowing them to stand alone as unique pieces while also weaving a coherent narrative when presented together as a collection.

With this project, I received the Yankees as the team for the collection. As the designer in this scenario, I thought it would be important to create a collection with some pieces that were unique to the city, and others that could be leveraged for teams across the country.

Conveying the brand’s vision across diverse platforms, this collection will embody the essence of the holiday, strengthening the link between our community’s love for sports and national festivity. This approach ultimately extends an invitation to customers, encouraging them to embrace the Fourth of July in style.

As I concluded this project, I took a moment to reflect on the invaluable lesson of staying attuned to the ever-shifting trends within our dynamic socio-political climate. This undertaking stands as a prime illustration of how the significance of celebrations and holidays evolves alongside societal transformations. It underscores the imperative for brands to maintain a dual awareness, both in terms of societal shifts and creative adaptation, as we witness the continuous evolution of our world.
